6th Year on staff at LQ

Ricky Medina is an educator and performer in Southern California. He completed his BM in Performance and Music Education at California State University, Long Beach, where he studied with Dr. John Barcellona. Since graduating, Ricky has earned a single subject teaching credential in music and spends his days teaching students from the elementary to the high school level. His experience teaching marching band has led him to become a highly sought-after instructor in the competitive circuit.

After his teaching day is done, Ricky lets his performing side take over. He has performed at the American Bandmasters Association conference, as part of CSU Summer Arts flute classes; at the National Flute Association convention; and at Segerstrom Hall as a guest artist for local honor ensembles. His collaborative efforts have led him to perform under world-class conductors including Frank Ticheli and Larry Curtis. He has also performed world-premier works by David Betancourt. He holds the pleasure of performing for master flutists including Carol Wincenc, Ian Clarke, Katherine Kemler, Ben Smolen, and Robert Dick.
